Process

The treatment line, stage by stage

Glorinda provides solutions across four areas of water and wastewater treatment. Most projects touch more than one.

01

Pre-treatment

Physical, chemical and biological removal ahead of the main stage: dissolved air flotation, filtration, membrane separation, anaerobic biology, adsorption. Effective pre-treatment reduces cost in the main stage and improves overall process efficiency.

02

Main treatment and recovery

Membrane recovery through conventional RO, closed circuit RO and high-efficiency RO; biological treatment including anaerobic membrane bioreactors; and where discharge must reach zero, evaporation and crystallisation.

03

Post-treatment

Ion exchange, mixed bed, electrodeionization and advanced oxidation to reach process, boiler feed, ultrapure or potable quality.

04

Residue management

Sludge dewatering, drying and incineration; salt and solid output routed to compost, fertiliser, animal feed, backup fuel, saleable salt or, as a last resort, compliant disposal.

What we deliver

Available solutions

Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD)
Pre-treatment, evaporation, crystallisation, drying and solid output management, designed around your effluent rather than a standard train.
Minimum Liquid Discharge
Around 85% recovery using conventional RO, closed circuit RO and high-efficiency RO a cost-effective alternative to thermal evaporation.
Membrane & Filtration
Ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, ceramic and silicon carbide membranes, hollow fibre, tubular and flat sheet configurations, and membrane bioreactors.
AnaeroMBR
Completely mixed anaerobic reactor combined with low-energy tubular ultrafiltration for high-strength effluent, producing biogas rather than consuming power.
Ion Exchange, Mixed Bed & EDI
Polish to ultrapure quality with resin and chemical-free electrodeionization.
AOP & on-site H₂O₂
Generate hydrogen peroxide from water, air and power with no chemical deliveries.
Desalination
Seawater and brackish water plants with pretreatment matched to the intake.
Applications

By Industry

Water problems are industry-specific long before they are technology-specific. These are the streams we are most often asked about, taken from the operating problems plants actually report.

Problems

Common challenges

Every line below is a real operating problem raised by plants in this sector, matched to the capability that answers it.

Discharge limits keep tightening

Consent conditions move; plants do not. We assess whether the existing line can be upgraded — adsorption, advanced oxidation, membrane polishing — before anyone proposes a new plant. Where discharge has to reach zero, ZLD is the endpoint, but it is rarely the cheapest first move.

Water is limited and the site wants to expand

A permit that caps abstraction caps production. Recovery from existing streams is usually cheaper and faster to permit than a new source. Minimum liquid discharge recovers around 85% of a wastewater stream on membrane technology alone.

COD load is destroying the treatment budget

Aerobic treatment spends electricity to destroy organic load. AnaeroMBR converts the same load into biogas, with up to 98% COD removal, no aeration and up to 75% less sludge than an aerobic process.

Sludge disposal costs more every year

Volume reduction is the only durable answer. Dewatering, then drying, then incineration — each stage removes moisture and haulage. Thermal hydrolysis before digestion improves digestibility, raises biogas yield and reduces residual volume.

Colour, metals or silica will not respond to conventional treatment

Our adsorbent systems remove up to 90% of COD without electricity, take COD down to 50–70 ppm through a simple flow-through process, and address heavy metals (including up to 99.5% of lead), cyanide, pesticides, silica, ammoniacal nitrogen and colour, producing under 1% waste against around 30% for an RO system.

Chemical deliveries are a safety and logistics problem

On-site hydrogen peroxide generation makes oxidant from water, air and electricity. No bulk chemical storage, no transport risk, no handling exposure; and it integrates directly into advanced oxidation, cooling water and odour control duties.

Overview

Sludge management

The better you treat wastewater, the more sludge you produce. On plants near urban areas that becomes an environmental problem as well as a cost, and it is usually the line item nobody modelled properly at tender.

- Municipal: Primary and biological sludge from sewage works, where thickening, dewatering and digestion determine both haulage cost and odour complaints. Thermal hydrolysis passes high-temperature steam through the sludge to increase its digestibility, producing a hygienic output from the anaerobic digester and more biogas from improved digestion.

- Industrial: Clarifier and chemical sludge from water treatment, oily sludge from API and DAF separators in refineries, mineral sludge from mining and steel, and coloured chemical sludge from textile effluent plants, each needing a different dewatering route.

Thermal hydrolysis also produces high-quality biogas and organic compost from a wide range of organic wastes: residual municipal sludge, animal excreta and agricultural waste.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Oil and gas, refining and petrochemical, power generation, chemical, fertilizer, food and beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical and biotech, electronics and semiconductor, mining and steel, textile, pulp and paper, agriculture and agro-processing, and municipal utilities. Each has its own characteristic streams, and the water and wastewater section is organised around them.

Flow rate and its variability, a contaminant analysis (COD, BOD, TDS, TSS, and the specific species that concern you), the discharge consent or reuse quality target, available footprint, and the utilities you have — steam, power, cooling. If you do not have reliable numbers, we will define the sampling campaign that produces them before quoting anything.

Usually, and it is normally the better commercial answer. Adsorption as a polishing stage, advanced oxidation for trace organics, membrane retrofits and pre-treatment upgrades all bring plants back inside consent without a rebuild. We assess the existing line first as a matter of course.

Yes. We deliver complete water and wastewater treatment packages on a turnkey basis as EP, EPC or EPCM, and we regularly act as owner’s engineer for clients who are contracting the plant themselves. Civil works are executed by local contractors under our engineering supervision.

Yes. Ion exchange, mixed bed and EDI post-treatment produce ultrapure water suitable for boiler feed, cooling and process reuse, backed by Glorinda Resins.
