Overview

Food & Pharma

Food, beverage and pharmaceutical production carry a set of engineering demands most other industries don’t have to balance together. A drying step decides shelf life, texture and, in a pharmaceutical product, bioavailability. A process stream often carries a fraction worth recovering rather than discarding, protein, sugar, an amino acid or an active ingredient. And water is rarely just a utility here: it’s an ingredient, it becomes steam that touches the product, and cleaning chemistry ends up in the effluent.

We work across three connected disciplines: drying; separation and resource recovery; and water and wastewater treatment specific to food and pharmaceutical production.

Scope

What we supply

Three disciplines, each supplied on its own or combined into a single design basis.

01.
Drying systems

Paddle, fluid bed, drum, rotary, flash, steam tube and spray dryers, sized up to 480 square metres and selected against the product’s heat sensitivity, particle requirement and throughput.

02.
Separation & resource recovery

Not one consolidated system. A set of separation and recovery technologies, each suited to a specific stream, documented as their own pages over time.

Whey protein extraction

Cheese whey is a valuable source of high quality protein that many plants still pay to remove as effluent. We extract and recover it instead, which creates a new income stream, lowers disposal cost and, in several cases, improves the texture, taste and nutritional quality of the primary product as well. Oil filtration.

Removing solids, waxes, gums and colour bodies from vegetable and cooking oils, using filtration and adsorbent media, so the oil reaches the clarity, stability and taste the finished product needs.

Resin-based separation

through Glorinda Resins: over 200 types of ion exchange, adsorbent, chelating and chromatography resins, developed and supplied under our own brand, covering starch and sugar refining, juice clarification, citrus debittering, amino acid purification, enzyme immobilisation, solid phase peptide synthesis and bio-pharmaceutical separation.

03.
Water in food & pharma

Purified water and water for injection, clean steam feedwater, CIP and SIP effluent treatment, and dairy and food effluent through AnaeroMBR. We are a member of German Water Partnership.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Water in food and pharmaceutical production is one of our three core disciplines here, covering purified water, water for injection, clean steam, CIP and SIP effluent, and dairy wastewater through AnaeroMBR.

Its own thing. It’s significant enough to us that it’s getting its own dedicated page rather than sitting inside the resin catalogue as one more application.

Both. Glorinda Resins supplies the resin or chromatography media itself, and we design, integrate and commission the system it runs in, from initial screening and process evaluation through to installation and operator training.

A heat sensitive product typically points to fluid bed or spray drying, where contact time is short. A more robust material can go through rotary, drum or steam tube drying, where throughput is higher. We select the type once we know the product’s characteristics, not before.
